Determining whether a mobile device has eSIM capability depends on whether the manufacturer includes this feature in their devices. That’s why we maintain a list of compatible devices for easy checking. However, even if a model is listed as eSIM capable, it’s possible that you still won’t be able to add an eSIM plan.
This is mainly because devices can be customized, Android devices for example have an open-source operating system, so manufacturers and carriers can customize it. Therefore, there may be Android models released in certain regions or countries that don’t have eSIM capability, or the main carrier where you purchased the device may not have enabled this feature. For iOS devices, Apple has only recently started supporting eSIMs, so most of the recently released iOS devices have eSIM capability.
While we’ve compiled some steps below to check if your device has eSIM capability, it’s important to note that the best way to confirm this feature is still through your device manufacturer, vendor, or main carrier by contacting them directly through their customer support department or any other available method that they offer.
Here are the steps that you need to follow to check your device’s compatibility.
For Android Devices
First Way: Device’s Settings
This way works for Samsung and Pixel devices.
Samsung Devices:
To check eSIM capability on Samsung devices, follow these steps:
- Open the “Settings” app.
- Tap “Connections.”
- Select “SIM card manager.”
- Look for the “Add Mobile plan” option. If it’s available, it indicates that your device supports eSIMs.
However, please keep in mind that it’s still recommended to confirm eSIM compatibility with Samsung support, as the steps above may not be applicable to all devices.
Pixel devices:
To determine eSIM capability on Google Pixel devices, please follow these steps:
- Open the “Settings” app.
- Tap “Network & Internet.”
- Select the “+” sign next to SIMs.
- Check if the “Connect to Mobile network” page includes a “Download a SIM instead?” option. If it does, then your device is eSIM capable.
It’s important to note that while these steps may indicate eSIM compatibility, it’s still recommended to confirm with Google Pixel support, your vendor, or main carrier to ensure that they’re applicable to your specific device.
Second Way: For All Android Devices
Here are the steps to check if your Android device supports eSIM using its unique identification number:
- Dial “*#06#” on your device.
- Press “Call.”
- If your device is eSIM capable, you’ll be able to see its unique identification number (EID).
For iOS Devices
Here are the steps to check if your iOS device supports eSIM:
- Open the “Settings” app.
- Tap “Cellular.”
- Select “Add a New Plan.”
- If an option to scan a QR code appears, then your device supports eSIM.
It’s important to note that these steps may not apply to all iOS devices, so it’s best to confirm with your device manufacturer, vendor, or primary carrier to ensure eSIM compatibility.
